  • How do I choose the best flooring for a room?

Narrow your options down based on the function of that room. In a room where moisture is an issue, vinyl flooring is a better choice than carpet. In a room that sees a lot of foot traffic, a tough carpet would work well. Soft, thick carpeting is great for rooms where comfort is a priority, while cut-pile carpeting is a good choice for those with pets.

Once you’ve chosen a flooring type that works well with the function of the room, the choice comes down to your personal style preference. We can help you find something you love for your home, business or rental.

  • Is carpet padding and underlay necessary?

The short answer is yes, it is necessary. Having a protective layer between the flooring and the subfloor cushions the impact on the flooring itself, improves comfort under foot and acts as noise, cold and heat insulation.

We recommend using underlay for laying vinyl flooring, the underlay serves several purposes. Having a good underlay under the flooring acts as a vapour barrier, acoustic and temperature insulation.

  • Can vinyl flooring be used anywhere?

Yes. Vinyl flooring is highly versatile. It comes in an enormous range of shapes, sizes, colours and patterns including mock wood patterns. Vinyl is a waterproof material so it’s safe for basements, bathrooms and kitchens.

  • Is vinyl flooring moisture resistant?

Vinyl flooring is made from recycled hardwood. While it does have a protective wear layer on top, it doesn’t protect against repeated moisture exposure. It can be spill resistant but consistent or heavy moisture will be a problem for vinyl.

  • Do my old floors have to be removed before installing a new floor?

That depends on the type of flooring and the installation method. Carpets will definitely need to be removed but some types of vinyl, hardwood or masonry tiles may not need to be removed.

If the old flooring material is fixed directly to the subfloor and is still in good condition, you may be able to install the new flooring over the top. We’ll inspect your existing flooring conditions to determine what needs to be done for the new flooring to be installed.

  • If I buy flooring from Affordable Carpets Woolgoolga, do I have to get the installation service as well?

We would love to help you with flooring installation. But, if you’d prefer to work with a separate contractor or do it yourself, you can order just the flooring from us. We’ll deliver it to you and leave the installation process up to you.
